The Heritage Foundation has a great perspective on Senator Jim Webb’s proposal to force a troop draw down by micromaagng at the Legislative level. In essence the proposed legislation puts a complicated schedule on when troops can and cannot be deployed. Senator Webb’s homepage states that “amendment (S. 2012) requir[es] that active duty troops have at least the same time at home as the length of their previous tour of duty overseas“.
With [the standards proposed by Senator Webb] in place, Americans would never have fought at Trenton, Cantigny, the Battle of the Bulge, or the Chosin Reservoir. No army could fight and win with these kinds of restrictions.
It is clear that the Democrats will do anything to run from our obligations in Iraq. Despite how we became obligated in Iraq our military must not leave that country until it is able to care for itself.
